HUCK FINN CH 1 - 3
#5) DOES HUCK FEAR GOING TO HELL?
I think Huck doesn't really care if he goes to hell or not, because he only wants to go where his best friend Tom goes.
#7) WHAT DO THE ROBBERS THINK RANSOM IS, AND WHAT ARE SOME OBJECTIONS TO IT?
The "robbers" say that they are going to ransom people, when they have no idea what it means. They think that they know because they've seen it written in books. Huck thinks that it means to kidnap people and hold them captive until they die. Huck says that the boys shouldn't kill women, but try and woo them into falling in love with the boys.
#1) IS WIDOW DOUGLAS OR MISS WATSON PRESENTED IN A MORE FAVORABLE LIGHT?
I think that Widow Douglas is presented in a more favorable light because Miss Watson is presented as a mean, negative character. At one point, when the gang is assembled, Huck is told that his parents will be killed if he snitches on them. To this, he replies that he has no parents, but they can kill Miss Watson if they want. Miss Watson also continually tries to change Huck's character, by yelling at him and making him pray, and from his viewpoint, this isn't a positive characteristic for her either.

CH 1
Chapter one starts where Tom Sawyer left off. Tom and Huck had found 6,000 dollars, that they gave to Judge Thatcher to keep safe. Huck lives with his adopted parent, Widow Douglas who tries to civilize him. Miss Watson seems to want to civilize him the most with forced prayers, and making him go to school. We also learn that Tom Sawyer is Huck's best friend.
CH 2
Huck and Tom try to sneak away from Widow Douglas's house. Huck and Tom leave a hat on a tree branch which causes a stir among the slaves. Jim tells the other slaves a witch story. The other slaves love it and might even believe it. Tom and Huck meet up with Tom Sawyers gang and discuss how they plan to ransom people and do all sorts of hood-lem things.
CH 3
Miss Watson gets angry at Huck for dirtying his clothes and tries to teach him more prayers. Huck thinks that prayer is unimportant in his life. Huck also fears that his father is alive and might return after disappearing a year before. A month later the the kids i the gang leave without having done anything nasty like they said they would. Huck decides that Tom is a liar after trying to make a genie come out of a lamp.
Huck Finn Ch 4 - 6
#2) How does Huck like life with his father? Why does he run away?
At first, he likes that he is allowed to play hooky and curse at will, but eventually, his father's drunken physical abuse becomes too much and he decides that running away is his best option.
#3) How does the physical description of Hucks father describe his character?
His father was described as greasy, and sickly pale. His physical characteristics show how he behaves also. His pale skin tone reminds us that he has a sick drinking problem, and these negative characteristics explain that his is just a bad guy.
#5 What is a hairball, and what does it say about slave culture?
A Hairball is a ball of hair that is coughed by an animal, in this case, an ox. It shows the slave's spiritual aspect of their culture, and how slaves turn to their spiritual sides to cope with the unfair treatment they receive in America.

CH 4
Huck notices boot tracks in the snow, and immediately recognizes them to be his pap's. Now, Huck is worried because he knows of the heavy drinking and how abusive Pap really is. He immediately goes to sell his 6,000 dollars to Judge Thatcher for a dollar. He goes to tell Jim about the news. After a spiritual conversation with a hairball, Jim tells Huck that he should be safe for now. That night, Huck saw his father in his bedroom.
CH 5
Pap basically looked like a wreck, with his sickly pale skin, and his shabby clothes. Pap becomes angry when he finds that Hick is the first person in the family to learn to read. He then tries to get the $6000 from Huck, but Huck doesnt have it. So Pap takes the dollar that Judge Thatcher gave to Huck and goes out to buy whiskey. The new judge refuses to to give Miss Watson custody of Huck, and tries to reform Pap. Pap tried to reform, but it didnt last long, for he started drinking again soon after.

One day, Pap kidnaps Huck and takes him into the woods and locks him inside a cabin. Pap had tried to sue Judge Thatcher for Huck's money but was delayed. Pap rambles about a mixed race person that is allowed to vote. Pap is angry about this. Pap almost kills Huck with a knife by chasing him, but he passes out.
Huck Finn CH 7-8
1. How does Huck escape the cabin? what does this say about Huck? He escapes by cutting his way through the wall and finding an abandoned canoe while his father is away. He then elaborately stages a murder scene with pigs blood, and as soon as the moon is up, he leaves on the canoe to Jackson's Island. This tells the reader that despite his lack of educational background, Huck is very smart in performing this task.
2 Why did Jim run away?
Jim had overheard Miss Watson planning to sell Jim to a slave owner in New Orleans. This would have been bad if he hadn't run away because Jim would have been separated from his family.
3. Why does Jim day that hes rich? in what way are people rich?
I think that Jim means that now that hes free, he can get a job up north and make money. However, I think that what Twain is trying to say is that freedom itself is what makes people rich, not wealth/ mo

CH 9-11
2. How would you characterize Mrs. Loftus?
I think that Mrs. Loftus is very intelligent because when Huck tries to take advantage of her apparent ignorance to current events in his town, Mrs. Loftus figures out in clever ways that he's not who he says he is.
8. What is the significance of ch 11's title?
Chapter 11 is called "Theyre after us" because Huck finds out that people are going to the island to see if Jim is there. It is significant because the action in the book is starting to rise quickly.
#. How do you think Huck feels about his father taking the blame for his faked murder?
I think Huck must feel some guilt because he is getting blamed, and almost lynched for something he didn't do. At the same time however, it might just be good for his father, and teach him to stop drinking.
