CH 1-3
These chapters give me a good idea of how some of the characters are going to affect the plot of the story. I see it to be very possible that Tom, Widow Douglas, and Miss Watson will definitely influence Hucks behavior and actions. For instance Tom was influential in getting Huck involved in their gang, which to my surprise, was planning on killing and ransoming people. It seems so strange that a young boys mind would think like this. Also Miss Watson seems to affect or try to affect how Huck behaves, such as forcing him to read the Bible. I think its good that he at least has an adult role model to look up to.
CH 4-6
I was surprised to read about the treatment that Huck got from his Pap.I was scared when thinking of what it would be like to put up with that kind of parenting throughout my childhood. It is kind of sad that Huck's Pap is backwards in his thinking and upsetting to see that all he wants is to be mean to Huck. Also, it was interesting to learn about the hair-ball that Jim used for spirituality. I think that Huck might go to Jim for more help in the future, but he has to escape from his father first.
CH 7-8
Huck and Jim are brave to have escaped from their homes. It surprises me how brave they both are. It's releiving that Huck wont be on his adventure alone. I think that theyll become good friends. It is very interesting to hear about the prophecies Jim has. I wonder if they will be true or not in the future. This could prove to be important.
CH 9-11
Huck's life is very exciting. I wish I could go on half the adventure that he is on. He sees things like a dead man and a rattlesnake. Either Twain has experienced things like these, or hes a great writer! So far this book is exciting and keeps the me on edge. It just makes me wonder how Twain comes up with this story.
CH 12-14
This section just did not axcite me as much as the previous chapters. I just didn't find it interesting. This book has had a lot of death so far. I guess, most exciting stories/movies deal with it, but its still a bit repetative. For instance the random dead man and Huck faking his own death. Huck has seen more death than ive seen my whole life, and because hes so young, I feel concerned for Huck's future.
Ch 15-16
Huck lies often in this section. Twain might be trying to show troubles with youth or something. He lies to Jim and he lies about his family having small pox. He even faked his own death. Jimnoticed it in this chapter. Huck needs to start realizing how his lies will affect others. This might start a coming of age theme in the story.
CH 17-18
This chapter seems to draw a lot of parallels to Romeo and Juliet. The Grangerfords and the Shepherdsons have been fighting for so long that they forget what they are fighting about. Sophia and the Shepherdson are Romeo and Juliet, but instead of killing themselves they run away. Which ia more realistc.
CH 19-20
Throughout the whole book there seems to not be a real plot line. I get this sense during these chapters. It seems better that we read the book in sections rather than chapters, because of this. It seems to be more of a book of short stories with the same two main characters. For instance each section is a different story than the one before. I bet Twain did this on purpose to bake it easier and more enjoyable to read.
CH 21-24
The 2 conmen in my opinion are like comedy relief to the story. It seems like an odd way to make money by doing shows. I think it was very smart of Huck to not call them out about their lies. Its ironic that huck knows that they are conmen, but the conmen dont know that Huck knows. These men could be dangerous, and Huck has done his fair share of lieing too.
CH 25-28
I feel very badly for the girls being conned out of their money. I feel like the conmen are going to get punished. Huck's morality code is developing with him being honest about the money being taken. Although hiding the money is probably not the best option he is trying to do the right thing. I hope the con men get figured out soon the money goes to the right people.
CH 29-31
I'm very glad that Huck decides to go get Jim because it was the right thing to do. He has developed a moral sense taht wasnt present in the first chapters of the book. I think this shows that although society says what he is doing is morally wrong he really has a true moral sense. Om glad that the con men got found out but something tells me they will get away. I hope Huck is finally able to get Jim to safety, for good. otherwise, Ill feel cheated.
CH 32-34
The conmen really got what they deseved. It made me angry that they were so evil without feeling bad about it. I was surprosed that the Phelps's believed Huck and Tom's lie. I thought they would recognize Tom,ut I guess they didn't see him very often. It was harder to see family back in those times. Its at least nice to see him reunited with his family, even if hes disguised.
CH 35-38
Tom should be taking the situation more seriously in my opinion. I dont think he exactly understands the importance of the situation. Jim's life is at stake and Tom is treating this as a game. He acts like its a movie. This will definately cause a problem later. I hope they can get away and everything ends up well. But unfortunately, I feel the possibility that that might not happen
CH 39-40
I was very surprised at Toms reaction to his wound. I would have screamed. I guess that my previous reflection was not correct in that they would get away. If he is not shocked by the gun shot, I dont know what shocks him. hes just a loose spirit. I dont think anybody could pull through from something like that in real life.
CH 41-43
I was glad to know that Jim kept the truth about Huck's father away from him. It let the book have some meaning. I liked the way that the book wraps up with Miss Watson letting Jim free in her will. Twain does a good job of making a happy ending. Its unfortunate that Miss Watson died, because she was a good person, and I credit her for Hucks upbringing, which made the book excellent.
